Inspiration + Process | PROUD Tee

Happy Gay Pride Month!

At cinder + salt we believe in unequivocal equality among all people. So... we made a Pride tee in honor of all the wonderful, diverse, brave people whom we share this world with.

LGBT Pride Month is celebrated every June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Riots in Manhattan. The Stonewall Riots were in response to the NYPD conducting unfair and unfounded raids of gay bars in New York City.

On June 28th, 1969 the NYPD raided the Stonewall Inn, a notorious gay bar in Greenwich Village and unbeknownst to them at the time, created a pivotal moment in the Gay Liberation Movement. In response, the LGBT community staged spontaneous and violent uprisings later known as the Stonewall Riots.

Within 6 months of the riots 2 gay-rights activist groups were formed as well as 3 newspapers which were used to promote gay rights. One year later, on June 28th, 1970 the first Gay Pride Parades were held in New York City, San Francisco, Chicago and Los Angeles, honoring the Stonewall Riots.

At Cinder + Salt we value equality and acceptance. We believe that everyone deserves the right and support to live the life they love. Proceeds from the sale of our PROUD Tees will go to True Colors, a local non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the rights and needs of gay/sexual minority youths are met and understood.
