Who creates all the designs?
Our owner, Rachel, illustrates all the screenprints and designs our entire product line at cinder + salt. She started by drawing on paper with Sharpie marker and manually creating films to make silk screens. She now continues to hand draw, cuts stencils from paper and uses an Apple Pencil and procreate to design. All prints are done in-house by Rachel and her production team.
Do you make your own shirts?
We do not cut & sew our own apparel. We do all our own artwork and screenprint on blank apparel that we source from reputable manufacturers. For this reason, some shirts may fit differently than others, but we take great care to include notable fit details in each product listing, as well as eco-facts for all the apparel we use.
Do you make your own accessories, linens and decor?
We buy premade tote bags and other accessories and screenprint on them. Once in awhile we make accessories from scratch. Our linens are 100% cotton and made in the USA but we only do the printing, not the cut & sew. Our plushie ornaments, stockings, pillows and other decor are made by our team using 100% upcycled fabrics. We save every scrap of fabric and turn it into new items, thus most decor items are limited edition & small batch.
What fabrics are your shirts made of?
Fabric content for all apparel is listed in the product descriptions, and varies based on the style. We aim to use eco-friendly fibers such as organic cotton, recycled poly, modal (beechwood pulp), bamboo and other recycled blends. Sometimes we use conventional fabrics that are made in sustainable factories, such as those made using 98% less what than is typical.
What type of inks do you use?
We use both water-based and oil-based inks, but we aim to only purchase reclaim inks. In our effort to minimize our impact, we source pre-owned inks from other printshops who are closing their doors, have overstock or simply don't use inks fast enough. We aim to by used instead of new as much as possible. This can also limit our color availability which forces us to be creative in our design process so that we are using what we have, versus having to source more materials.
What makes cinder + salt sustainable?
A core ethos of the brand is environmental sustainability and we take care to incorporate it in every facet of our business, not just in our product output. We offer a myriad of eco-initiatives you can view here that include recycling hard-to-recycle materials, operating a zero waste printshop, hosting volunteer opportunities and reducing waste in store. We also use what we have when it comes to designing our line, stocking our offices & supplying our stores. If we don't need it, we don't buy it, or use it.
What are your shipping policies
We aim to ship all orders within 3 business days but will notify you if there is a delay. Many of our styles are made to order, meaning we don't keep inventory on hand so we print it when you place the order.
We typically ships via USPS because USPS ships to all addresses, every day. Meanwhile UPS and Fedex drive wherever they are needed. We figure if the postal worker is already stopping at your house, its better for gas mileage and the environment to have them deliver your order. (:
What is your Return & Exchange policy
Returns are accepted within 30 days, and must be in their original condition with no signs of wear and tear. All sales are final on sale items.
Exchanges are accepted within 90 days, and must be in their original condition with no signs of wear and tear. If exchanging by mail, a replacement will be mailed once we have the original in hand. You'll be responsible for getting the exchange back to us unscathed, but cinder + salt will happily cover the shipping for the new item. #omgstopit!
We do not accept returns on custom-made or sale items. However, if you receive your order and have any concerns, please get in touch.
